Former journalist and Museveni’s Press Secretary Onapito dead

KAMPALA, September 27, 2024 — The former Member of Parliament for Amuria County and President Museveni’s Press Secretary, Francis Onapito Okomoloit has passed on. This is according to former minister and veteran politician, Cpt. Mike Mukula.

Announcing the sad news on X [formerly Twitter], Mukula stated: “On behalf of the Teso community and the country at large I hereby announce we deep sadness and Pain demise of our brother Hon ONAPITO OKOMOLOIT [RIP] a veteran journalist and former member of parliament AMURIA county …the rest of the details will be communicated later.”

Onapito served as Director Legal and Corporate Affairs at Nile Breweries Limited [UBL] before being elevated to the position of Board Chairman.

At the time of his death, Onapito was Board Chair of Teso Fruit Factory, established by government under the Public-Private Partnership [PPP] to process fruits, especially oranges and mangoes grown by the local farmers in Teso Subregion.

Onapito’s demise follows that of another veteran journalist and former Presidential Advisor on Media Tamale Mirundi who passed away on August 13, 2024.
