WSACCO donates to UPDF sports teams

MBARARA – Wazalendo Savings and Credit Cooperative Society [WSACCO] has donated sports uniforms and balls to 19 football teams and 12 netball teams that are participating in the 15th edition of the Chief of Defence Forces [CDF’s] Cup hosted by 2nd Infantry Division in Mbarara City. The tournament commenced on September 3, 2023.

While flagging off the tournament, the acting 2nd Infantry Division commander Brig Gen. Paul Muhanguzi who represented the Chief of Defence Forces [CDF]Gen Wilson Mbadi, commended the Uganda People’s Defence Force [UPDF] leadership for choosing the 2nd Infantry Division to host this year’s tournament.

He also commended the Force’s Chieftaincy of Education, Sports, and Culture for organising the tournament and he encouraged players to maintain discipline.

Muhanguzi further the sponsors of the games including the WSACCO for the support extended to ensure the appreciated success of the tournament.

He emphasised the importance of sports and games in promoting fitness in the UPDF as well as ensuring teamwork, team spirit and also providing a platform for identifying and developing talent in the UPDF.

The mayor of Mbarara City, Robert Kakyebezi appreciated the UPDF leadership and the Commander in Chief of the armed forces President Yoweri Museveni for professionalising the UPDF and promoting good working relationship between the civilians and the UPDF.

The Director of Finance and Administration WSACCO Lt Col Yusufu Magero Buha who delivered the sports gear on behalf of the CEO Col Joseph Freddy Onata noted that the basis for the donation is to give back to the UPDF officers who constitute the bulk of WSACCO membership.

“The main purpose for the establishment of WSACCO is to improve the soldiers’ welfare. We believe that sports contributes to welfare through promoting fitness and health. We therefore make this contribution with that in mind,” Buha said.

Buha also thanked the members for choosing WSACCO as a centre for their financial solutions.

He informed the members and the general public that WSACCO leadership has come up with innovations such as real estate that will enable members to acquire affordable and reliable pieces of land to change their well-being.

The launch of the games was attended by among others senior leaders in Mbarara district and Mbarara City, directors from UPDF headquarters in Kampala, and the general public.
