Excitement as Butebo receives modern ambulance

BUTEBO, September 12, 2023 – Keddi Foundation, a not-for-profit organisation has donated a well-equipped ambulance to Butebo district in a bid to reduce maternal mortality.

The emergency response vehicle registration Number UBP 133D worth Shs 100 million will improve service delivery in the health sector.

Keddi Foundation is engaged in activities that fight poverty, diseases and inequity in Africa.

The ambulance was handed over on Saturday to the Butebo resident district commissioner, Paul Mwidu Kalikwani by the chief executive officer of the Foundation, Steven Keddi Zuluba at Kalalaka Primary School in Butebo town council. The ambulance will be stationed at Butebo Health Centre IV.

Keddi said his organisation donated the ambulance to ease the transportation of expectant mothers and other patients in the district and other neighboring areas.

“We have donated the ambulance to handle emergency services especially when it comes to transporting patients, especially expectant mothers to General hospitals or Regional hospitals for better management,” Keddi said.

He said many expectant women have died due to the long distances they have to travel to reach health centres.

Harriet Akello, a resident in the district, said the absence of an ambulance had affected the handling of emergencies, putting the patients’ lives at stake.

“We are optimistic the new ambulance will help reduce deaths arising from health complications that can be addressed when patients are rushed to well-equipped hospitals that can handle them,” she said.

Suzan Mugara, a health worker, said transporting expectant mothers from lower health facilities to regional hospitals has been a big challenge.

She said expectant mothers in rural areas have limited access to transportation.
