KAMPALA– Corti Paul Lakuma, the Economic Policy Research Centre [ EPRC ] research fellow and Head of Macro Department, is the overall best Uganda economics analyst forecaster of the year 2021.
The recognition is organised by FocusEconomics, a firm providing economic analysis and forecasts for 200 countries in Africa, Asia, Europe, the Middle East and the Americas, as well as price forecasts at 34 key commodities.
According to the latest EPRC press release, Lakuma led the pack in forecasting Gross Domestic Product (GDP), inflation, and was ranked second in exchange rate forecast.
The exchange rate category was won by Moody’s Research Team.
Additionally, in a media statement, FocusEconomics said that “the Awards recognize the achievements of the analysts who most accurately predicted the performance of the main macroeconomic indicators for 100 countries and 19 commodity prices in 2021.”
It added that despite the challenges brought by the Covid-19 pandemic, “[the winners] continued to produce and update reliable economic forecasts.”
“We have evaluated the accuracy of all the forecasts for 2021 submitted to our Consensus Forecast surveys and are pleased to announce the recipients of the 2022 Analyst Forecast Awards.”
Mr. Lakuma has consistently come up among the top analysts in the country every year.
