DOKOLO: Ogwal outlines key areas to work on before she retires

DOKOLO– Dokolo District Woman MP, Cecilia Barbara Atim Ogwal has outlined six key development issues that she would want to accomplish in her constituency before she retires from active politics come 2026.

Ogwal referred to as the ‘Iron Lady’ because of her firm articulation of political issues in the country, recently said she would not contest in 2026, the year when the country will again hold general elections majorly to elect the president and Members of Parliament.

The MP who was speaking days ago in Dokolo, said besides boosting Village Saving and Loan Associations [VSLAs], the remaining tasks for her, she said include; reducing poverty, promoting girl child education, and lobbying government to work on two bridges that connects the district to other areas.

Others, she said, include ensuring Dokolo Town Council becomes a municipality before 2026 and upgrading of Dokolo Health Centre IV to a district hospital with better service delivery.

Ogwal identified two bridges, which she said are affecting communication and produce business. The bridges are Kangai Bridge and Amodo Bridge which connect Dokolo district to Kaberimado and Amolatar districts respectively.

“I am happy because Amodo Bridge which cost Shs1.8 billion has been completed and awaits commissioning,” she said.

Ogwal said the construction of Kangai Bridge is still ongoing and will be completed before 2026 general elections.

“Right now I am fighting to get the district hospital because some of the major projects are near completion,” she added.

She also stressed that all the LCI Chairpersons in the district have formed VSLAs, adding that the village political leaders will play an important role in the Parish Development Model [PDM].

“They (LC1s) are going to provide a very good foundation for Parish Development Model because they are more than ready,” she said.

Ogwal, a senior legislator, who has been in parliament since 1996, recently vowed not to contest in 2026 general elections as she will make 80 years.

“My task is being accomplished and by 2026, I will not be able to contest because of the old age,” she added.
