dfcu signs MoU with IBM, Envision Global to boost digital infrastructure
Central to the collaboration is the development and deployment of an enterprise-grade software integration platform, an API Gateway, designed to securely link the lender’s internal systems with external partners across multiple sectors
KAMPALA, December 17, 2025 — dfcu Bank has signed a tripartite Memorandum of Understanding [MoU] with global technology firm International Business Machines Corporation [IBM] and its Platinum Partner, Envision Global, in a move aimed at strengthening the lender’s digital infrastructure, accelerating innovation, and improving how it interacts with customers, partners, and the wider financial ecosystem.
The agreement was signed today at dfcu Bank’s headquarters in Kampala, and establishes a long-term strategic partnership focused on advancing the bank’s digital transformation agenda.
Central to the collaboration is the development and deployment of an enterprise-grade software integration platform, an API Gateway, designed to securely link the lender’s internal systems with external partners across multiple sectors.
The API Gateway is expected to enhance interoperability, speed up collaboration, and support product co-creation in banking, insurance, telecommunications, education, and other industries that increasingly depend on seamless digital integration.
Speaking at the signing ceremony attended by executives from both sides, dfcu Bank Chief Executive Officer, Charles Mudiwa said the partnership marked a key milestone in the bank’s transformation journey and reflected its commitment to innovation and customer-centric service delivery.
Mudiwa said upgrading core systems was essential to making the bank future-ready and competitive in a rapidly evolving digital economy.
He explained that customer expectations have shifted significantly due to rapid technological change, with clients increasingly demanding convenience, reliability, and efficient service delivery.
He said dfcu Bank’s digital strategy is aimed at ensuring customers can access modern banking services seamlessly, anytime and anywhere.
Mudiwa continued that the goal is to make banking fit naturally into customers’ lives rather than requiring customers to adjust their routines to access financial services.
On his part, dfcu Bank’s Chief Technology, Digital and Operations Officer Musa Musazi stated that the API Gateway will act as a central integration layer, enabling secure and seamless communication between dfcu Bank and its partners.
He noted that through the platform, customers of dfcu Bank and partner institutions will be able to access each other’s products and services, expanding reach and creating added value for all stakeholders.
Under the partnership, IBM will provide its globally developed API Gateway technology, an enterprise-grade solution known for security, scalability, and reliability.
On the other hand, Envision Global will oversee implementation and deployment within dfcu Bank’s ecosystem, ensuring compliance with agreed timelines, quality standards, and enterprise requirements.
Once deployed, the API Gateway will become a core component of dfcu Bank’s long-term digital strategy, supporting innovation, partnerships, and future service expansion.
The initiative is expected to strengthen the dfcu Bank’s position within Uganda’s growing digital financial landscape while promoting a more connected and collaborative financial ecosystem.
