FRONASA veterans cooperative condemns torture of disabled traders

Uganda revenue authority (URA) had been asked to politely treat disabled persons and other area residents that cross to Kenya to buy goods for home consumption.

Vianney Matovu Ngoma the national political commissar front for national alliance (FRONASA) condemned the tax collection body’s enforcement team for harassing disabled cross border traders and residents that buy goods in small quantities for home use.

“This cannot be called smuggling,” he said, noting that border residents within a given radius have a right to buy goods of specific limit for either business or home use.

He appealed URA to instead direct its efforts to fight big traders that evade tax that wasting resources on fighting residents that take advantage of the border to make ends meet.
