SOROTI, March 20, 2024 – Soroti Regional Referral Hospital has begun constructing houses for its medical workers offering blood transfusion services.
According to senior officials at the hospital, it has 10 workers at the Blood Transfusion Centre, and need to be accommodated near the hospital so that they serve better.
The site for the construction of staff houses was handed over days ago to the contractor [Geses Uganda Limited] by Deputy Resident City Commissioner Soroti city West, James Small Chemutai.
Chemutai cautioned the contractor against doing shoddy work and pledged to monitor the works regularly to ensure that value for money is realised.
He also advised the hospital administration to routinely monitor the construction project, saying it will help deliver quality work.
On her part, Martha Ajilong, Head of Blood Transfusion Centre said the staff houses will improve service delivery as workers will be staying nearby.
“Staff residing closer to the Blood Bank makes it convenient for the staff as well as the patients,” Ajilong said.
She added that Soroti hospital still depends on Mbale Blood Bank for blood supplies, adding that soon the hospital’s blood bank will be completed.
Dr Joseph Epodoi, senior executive consultant at the hospital commended government for funding the staff housing project, saying it will improve their efficiency.
Meanwhile Seth Nankunda, the Manager Geses Uganda Limited promised to deliver quality work.
He encouraged the locals in the area to provide labour and materials so that they can earn some money.
The Shs 1.1 billion project is expected to be completed in three months..
