KIRYANDONGO, January 13, 2025 –– Authorities in Kiryandongo district have launched the construction of an 11km Diima-Mutunda road, with a budget of Shs 530 million, located in Diima and Nyamahasa sub-counties. The project launched days ago, is being implemented under the Uganda Support to Municipal Infrastructure Development-Additional Funding [USMID-AF].
Once completed, the road will connect Mutunda and Nyamahasa sub-counties residents to the Kampala-Gulu highway, providing easier access to business centers such as Bweyale and Karuma. The road is expected to be completed by March, facilitating economic activities such as agriculture, industrialisation, and trade.
Speaking to the project beneficiaries at Diima Market, Anslem Atugonza, the Chief Administrative Officer of Kiryandongo, warned TEB Technical Services and Contractors Ltd. against delivering substandard work. He urged the contractors to adhere to the bills of quantities and use high-quality materials throughout the construction process.
Atugonza also advised the community to refrain from siphoning fuel intended for the roadworks, as such actions could compromise the quality of the project.
“This is your road. You’ve been complaining that the government has forgotten you. Now that the road is here, you must protect it,” Atugonza stated.
Edith Aliguma, the LCV Chairperson of Kiryandongo, encouraged the community to actively participate in monitoring and supervising the construction to ensure quality standards are maintained.
“Infrastructure development in the district, such as road construction, is intended to improve service delivery and enhance the livelihoods of the people. Make sure there is value for money,” she advised the beneficiaries.
Dan Muganga, the Resident District Commissioner of Kiryandongo, urged the community to make the most of the new roads to improve their livelihoods and combat poverty.
“Use these roads to increase your household income. Take your produce to the markets using the improved roads. However, I also caution you against misusing these roads by allowing animals to move along them,” he warned.
