Coffee Prices in Uganda Rebound – MAAIF

KAMPALA, August 19, 2025 — Uganda’s coffee prices have stabilised and are gaining momentum, according to a recent statement from the Minister of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries [MAAIF], Frank Tumwebaze.

The ministry’s press statement on the new prices follows a period of decline caused by global market imbalances and an oversupply from major producers such as Brazil and Vietnam.

“In my earlier briefing in June 2025, I highlighted the challenges that had contributed to the decline in coffee prices — notably, the imbalance between global demand and supply, and excess production from key players including Brazil, Vietnam, and India.

“I also indicated that, based on our forecasts, coffee prices would recover by mid-August 2025. I am pleased to confirm today that prices have indeed rebounded to the levels we anticipated,” Minister Tumwebaze said in a press statement.

He confirmed that his earlier prediction of a price recovery had materialised.

“As of today’s market report from our Department of Coffee Development, a kilogram of coffee is now selling for between Shs 13,000–14,000 for Fair Average Quality [FAQ], and Shs 13,500–14,000 for Arabica parchment,” the statement noted. “This reflects the confidence international buyers have in Uganda’s high-quality coffee and the resilience of our farmers,” he added.

Looking ahead, Tumwebaze urged farmers and all stakeholders to maintain high standards across the entire coffee value chain, from harvesting and drying to processing.

He also encouraged the adoption of good agricultural practices, the strengthening of farmer organisations, and increased focus on value addition to safeguard the sector from future price fluctuations.

“As we welcome this positive development, I call upon all farmers and actors within the coffee value chain to continue upholding quality standards,” he stated.

The government remains committed to supporting farmers and ensuring that the coffee sector continues to thrive as a cornerstone of Uganda’s economy. “I therefore urge all farmers to sustain this momentum and, most importantly, to continue following best practices in production, harvesting, and post-harvest handling,” Tumwebaze concluded.
