Cambodia: First modern poultry and safe vegetable farming cooperative launched
Morn Sre Auphut and Safe Vegetable Agriculture Cooperative is a new, modern farming cooperative and the first of its kind to include chicken raising
PHNOM PENH, January 11, 2026 — The first modern poultry and safe vegetable farming cooperative has been established in Tram Kak district, Cambodia, bringing together 120 families to produce safe vegetables in 200 net houses and 40 chicken farms.
The new community, named “Morn Sre Auphut and Safe Vegetable Agriculture Cooperative”, is located in Ang Ta Som commune, Tram Kak district, Takeo province, according to Khim Finan, Undersecretary of State and Spokesperson for the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries [MAFF], posted on social media on Tuesday.
Finan said the community plans to produce both chickens and safe vegetables under pre-contract farming arrangements.
Morn Sre Auphut and Safe Vegetable Agriculture Cooperative is a new, modern farming cooperative and the first of its kind to include chicken raising. Previously, modern farming communities focused mainly on crops, but O’ Phut community is the first to organise chicken production, with 120 members and around 40 chicken farm houses,” Finan said.
He added that MAFF, through the Cambodia Agricultural Sector Diversification Project [CASDP], has provided 40 percent of the investment as a grant for the construction of 200 net houses and about 40 chicken farm houses.
The remaining 60 percent will be facilitated by MAFF through access to low-interest loans, allowing farmers to invest without financial pressure. Farmers are only required to contribute their labour and land to participate in agricultural production and improve their livelihoods.
Regarding capital, technology and market access, Finan said the Ministry of Agriculture will also support farmers in the community.
Meanwhile, Korn Phearum, president of the Morn Sre Auphut and Safe Vegetable Agriculture Cooperative, told Khmer Times yesterday that forming a modern farming cooperative helps farmers secure markets, operate under clear contracts and support one another.
As a first step of this modern farming cooperative, she said the community will begin by growing safe vegetables in 80 net houses, with plans to expand to more than 100 additional net houses in the coming months. Although she has raised chickens for many years, organising farmers into a modern farming community is a new initiative.
“The establishment of this modern agricultural community will help farmers secure markets for their chickens’ eggs, improve their livelihoods and generate sufficient income to support their families,” Phearum said.
Looking ahead, Phearum said the community plans to expand further by adding 8,000 laying hens, rooster and additional net houses for vegetable production. In the future, she hopes to develop the community into a major centre for both meat and egg production, supplying chickens in the whole of Takeo province.
