Bunyoro sect wants its book used in teaching learners in schools
KAGADI– The new leader of the religious sect, Faith of Unity Movement, Omukwenda Akugizibwe Bisaka wants its book to be included among those being used to teach faith in schools, especially in Bunyoro Sub-region.
Bisaka succeeded his father Owobusobozi Basaka who died in January 2021 in Agakhan Hospital. Owobusobozi Basaka, a man who called himself “God” founded the movement which has over one million believers.
Bisaka believes that his sect’s book, Faith of Unity Book [Akatabo Kobumu] is very important in instilling discipline, faith, and good morals in pupils and students in schools.
However, this reporter could not establish whether the National Curriculum Development Centre [NADC] has approved the book to be used in schools. The Bible and Koran are key religious books used in Uganda’s education system.
On Sunday Bisaka met the Minister for the Presidency, Milly Babirye Babalanda as she visited Kapyemi, the movement’s headquarters in Muhoro town council, Kagadi district. The sect’s leaders had invited the minister so they could share with government issues affecting their development.
He appealed to Minister Babalanda to meet President Museveni over the matter so that his book finds its way into the classrooms, saying that they have petitioned the president on the same three times but no positive response has been received from the Head of State.
Minister Babalanda promised to submit their request to the president and promised the government would support projects initiated by the religious sect’s members.
She commended the sect for the projects saying they complement government efforts of promoting education, skilling of Ugandans, and health service delivery.
She also lauded the Faith of Unity Movement believers for promoting unity in diversity which is one of the core principles of the National Resistance Movement [NRM].
“Thank you for supporting the NRM in the 2021 presidential and parliamentary and local government elections and please continue supporting the NRM for its people-centered programme,” she said.
Babalanda called on the Faith of Unity Movement leaders to continue mobilising the people of Bunyoro to engage in productive activities to ensure the fight against poverty.
She said there is a need for the public to embrace government programmes that were initiated to eradicate poverty and people should unitise them.
Barnabus Tinkasimire, the MP for Buyaga East urged government to take over the vocational institution, primary and secondary schools, and a health facility that were established by Bisaka, saying the facilities serve a growing population in the area.
He noted that the institutions need government’s support, adding that they are struggling due to a lack of funds.
