The State Minister for Micro Finance, Haruna Kyeyune Kasolo, has urged the people of Bunyoro to join SACCOs if they are to benefit from the Presidential Cluster Initiative on wealth and job creation (Emyooga).
The minister made the remarks last Thursday while launching the initiative in Bunyoro sub region at Masindi Municipal Mayor’s Gardens in Masindi town.
He also urged the people of Bunyoro to embrace a saving culture in order to eradicate poverty from their homes.
“Government will be injecting Shs 620m into each constituency to fund the selected categories of clusters that include Boda-boda riders, salon, carpenters and taxi operators, among others” the minister noted.
He asked the initiative’s potential beneficiaries to learn to save so that they can benefit from the money.
“I encourage you to make sure that you adopt a saving culture if you’re to benefit from this programme,” the minister urged.
He asked members of the selected categories to form SACCOs so that the money can be sent to their accounts by the government in form of a grant.
Speaking at the same event, Masindi district Chairperson, Cosmas Byaruhanga, warned residents against politicising the program but advised them to put the money to good use so that it can transform their lives.
“I am warming you not to politicise this programme. Programmes which have been politicised have not yielded any fruits,” said Byaruhanga.
The Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Martin Mugabi asked the parish chiefs to be at the centre stage of mobilizing and sensitizing the people to form SACCOs so that they can benefit from the program.
The people who are meant to benefit from the programme include bodabodas, taxi operators, journalists, market vendors among others on condition that they have active SACCOs.
