TORORO – The deputy resident district commissioner of Tororo, Albert Amula has said Bukedi Regional Presidential Industrial Hub will open next week to receive trainees selected to underdo various practical courses that will help them create their own jobs.
“There is commitment by President Museveni to fight poverty and this has been envisioned by the various regional presidential industrial hubs that have been set up across the country to skill the youth and women so as to fight unemployment,” Amula said.
He made the remarks days ago while addressing leaders and students who had been selected from both Tororo district to enroll at the presidential industrial hub established in Kibuku district.
Bukedi Sub-region region, found in eastern Uganda, has seven districts of Busia, Tororo, Butaleja, Pallisa, Kibuku, Butebo and Budaka.
Amula called upon the youth to be committed to undertake the various practical courses, saying they will get skills to improve their lives as well as transform their households.
He said Bukedi Regional Presidential Industrial Hub will open for enrolment on April 18, 2023 with Tororo district allocated 52 slots.
He urged the successful students/youth selected for the first batch to get ready for skilling.
“The training is scheduled to take six months and on completion of the training participants will be awarded certificates from the Directorate of Industrial Training,” he said.
Tororo district vice chairperson Rebecca Akumu, also urged the youth to remain committed, disciplined, and focused while training .
She urged the students to adhere to the rules and regulations governing the industrial hub and implored those who are not prepared for the training to inform the commercial officers immediately so that replacements can be made.
Sarah Owori, a retired teacher, hailed the government for giving a chance to uneducated youth to get skills that will enable them to fight poverty in their villages.
“We thank the President for fulfilling his pledge of setting up skills training Industrial hubs for the needy people and trusting the local leaders to be part of the project,” Owori said.
Most of the presidential industrial hubs in the country are offering vocational skills such as welding and metal fabrication, shoemaking, salon and hairdressing, carpentry and joinery, bricklaying, tailoring, weaving, knitting baking and stone cutting, as well as sensitisation on mindset change.
Meanwhile, other leaders in Bukedi Sub-region have commended Museveni and the NRM government for establishing an industrial hub in their area and pledged to cooperate and ensure that the facility is put to proper use.
“We appreciate President Museveni for the Hub meant to transform the livelihoods of the youths,” Nalongo Kwesiga, the Kibuku resident district commissioner said on Thursday.
Kwesiga and other leaders were on an inspection tour of the facility alongside the manager of the Hub, Teddy Ouma. They particularly appreciated the bakery section that is ready for use, commenting that it would immediately rescue the youth who complete their training.
The Senior Private Secretary to the President on Political and Youth Affairs, Godfrey Longa, asked Bukedi leaders to embrace the programme.
The representative of the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Local Government, Julius Muhairwe, emphasised the need for leaders to have mindset change for better results.
The representative of the chief administrative officer Kibuku, Bashir Nangheje, urged the leaders in the area to promote the programme, adding that the Hub is for the whole of Bukedi Sub-region.
