Bugwere cultural leader urges subjects to embrace poverty eradication programmes

KIBUKU– The Bugwere cultural leader [Ikumbania], His Highness Geoffrey Wayabire has rallied SACCO group leaders from the four districts of Budaka, Kibuku, Butebo, and Pallisa to support and engage their subordinates so that they embrace government’s poverty eradication programmes.

He urged the group leaders to take a keen interest in government poverty eradication initiatives such as the Parish Development Model [PDM], Operation Wealth Creation [OWC], and Emyooga, adding that the SACCO leaders and others should follow all the established implementation guidelines put in place by government.

Weyabire also asked the Bagwere communities to join Saccos if they are to fight poverty among themselves.

He made the remarks while addressing a group of 150 fish farmers under their Umbrella organisation “Zibula Atudde organization” in Kibuku district.

He encouraged the already existing SACCO leaders to train and empower others.

“Let’s join SACCOs to develop ourselves and other government programs and village groups like “Zibula Atudde fish farming” to improve our livelihoods,” he said.

Tom Mbulamberi, the Secretary-General of Bugwere Cultural Institution, encouraged the Bagwere community to love and promote their culture.

“Having a peaceful community brings development. Let’s love our cultural institution by attracting people who can bring development. Let’s not allow anyone to mislead us or confuse us, “he said.

Sam Mwiruyazi, the chief administrative officer Kibuku district, said that people need to embrace government programmes that are put in place to develop themselves.

He further asked different SACCO groups to network with other groups so as to acquire knowledge and skills in different projects.

“There are many government projects which are put in different districts but few people get involved in such projects and yet if we can all of us join, I believe we shall be far,” he said.

Ms Stella Alupot, the chairperson Zakidffo SACCO, said they have managed to recruit about 150 members as the campaign to bring in more continues.

“We are managing a successful SACCO where members deposit their savings while others get loans at low interest rates,” she said.

She said that some of the members have improved their livelihoods by engaging in different income-generating projects.

“We have projects which include fish farming, and a herbal research clinic. We engage in agro-input production, and horticulture among others which have improved the lives of our members,” she said.

She however appealed to all the leaders to render a hand to enable their group realise its dream of changing and impacting their communities.
