Bishop Olwa asks Museveni for tractors

OTUKE- The Bishop of Lango Diocese, Prof. Alfred Olwa has appealed to President Yoweri Museveni to procure 10 tractors for the diocese, saying they would help boost agricultural production in its archdeaconries.

Prof Olwa said as a diocese, they have encouraged the faithful in the area to embrace commercial farming.

“The level we have reached, we don’t need the local hoes but tractors,” he said days ago during the commissioning of Baralegi Primary School and two churches constructed with the support of Museveni at Okwang Sub-county in Otuke district.

The school and two churches belonging to the Anglicans and Catholics respectively, were constructed in an area where Museveni used to camp in 2003 as the government army was fighting Joseph Kony’s rebel outfit, the Lord’s Resistance Army [LRA]. Baralegi State Lodge is constructed in the same area.

“As the Bishop of Lango diocese I have written letters to the relevant ministries asking for 10 tractors because I want to see that each archdeaconry has a tractor to support agricultural production we have never received any,” Olwa said.

He added the tractors would also play a big role in supporting the government`s programme of Parish Development Model [PDM].

“I know you are good at delivering your promises. Kindly whisper to those responsible to give us 10 tractors. We shall not let you down,” the bishop said.

In response, Museveni agreed to secure the tractors for the diocese but said they would be fewer than 10.
