Best cooperative experiences and projects to be awarded at AMCCO13 in Cairo

KAMPALA– Five best cooperative experiences and projects in Africa will be awarded at the 13th African Ministerial Cooperative Conference [ AMCCO13 ] to be held in Cairo, Egypt from October 17-20, 2022.

The winners will be recognised through Best Cooperative Experiences/Projects Awards.

And according to the organisers, to be considered applicants must provide information: A thorough description of the cooperative experience; level of achievement in the targeted community, level of cooperation among cooperatives, experience-based Innovative techniques, and role of the government and the civil society in supporting the experience.

Meanwhile, AMCCO13 will be held under the patronage of Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi under the theme, “Growing Africa Together”.

The International Cooperative Alliance-Africa [ICA – Africa] and the General Authority for Construction and Housing Cooperatives (CHC – Egypt) are the organisers of the conference, which comes over two months since the world marked the International Day of Cooperatives on July 2, 2022.

The highly rated conference is expected to bring government ministers and officials, cooperative leaders, and other stakeholders into a forum to deliberate on how best cooperatives could continue to contribute to the growth of Africa particularly in the achievement of SDGs 2030 and African Agenda 2063.

The participants at the conference will deliberate and suggest best environment under which African cooperatives can operate in attempts to maximize their contribution to the transformation of the lives of their members and realisation of SDGs 2030 and Agenda 2063. They will discuss and recommend innovative and inclusive cooperative models pertinent to Africa’s sustainable development.

The participants will explore the nexus between cooperatives and community development, underline the opportunities and challenges created by the AFCFTA 2019 and means through which cooperatives can harness and address them, respectively and delineate the role of cooperatives in addressing climate change and associated environmental issues.

Some of the key topics that will be discussed at the conference are; Role of governments in supporting cooperative activities to achieve Africa’s Agenda 2063 goals; Collaboration among cooperatives: an integrated socio-economic development model; The role of Successful Cooperative projects in the development of communities.

Other topics to be discussed are; The role of cooperatives in maximising benefits of the African Continental Free Trade Agreement [AFCFTA, 2019]; Legal and administrative frameworks required to enhance the cooperatives’ participation in development; Cooperatives between ecological needs and environmental changes.

The conference activities include an opening session, scientific sessions, workshops, seminars, and lectures. The accompanying exhibition will display models of successful cooperative experiences and projects in African countries.

Organisers say African ministries and governmental entities supporting cooperative activities, universities, research centers, banks, institutions, cooperative societies, researchers, and specialists will have a chance to exhibit their latest experiences and projects during AMCCO13.
