MBALE – Bugisu Cooperative Union [BCU] has revealed plans to rehabilitate structures belonging to primary societies in Bugisu Sub-region famous for the production of Arabica coffee.
This is according to John Musila, the vice chairperson of BCU who is also the Member of Parliament for Bubulo East in Namisindwa district.
Musila, one of the senior cooperators in Uganda, revealed the latest development while speaking to hundreds of delegates from Lwakhakha Zone at Chebukubi House in Magale town council in Namisindwa district during pre-annual general meeting.
One week to BCU AGM, all directors from all its zones first hold a pre annual general meeting with delegates of different primary societies at that particular zone to articulate issues that they present to the AGM through their delegates.
BCU has zones such as Upper Central, Lambuli, Sironko, Bugusege, Lwakhakha, Lower Cental, Manafwa, Rusty, and Bubulo Zones.
According to Musila, most of the primary societies in Lwakhakha Zone like Buwambwa, Buwaya, Bumakambo, and Makhonge among others are in a sorry state.
He said the BCU board and delegates have agreed to pass money during the annual general meeting today, June 30, 2023, to repair all those societies in a sorry state across Bugisu Sub-region.
Difasi Wabuya, a delegate from Magale Primary Society under BCU was excited that repairing structures like stores will improve performance as farmers will be enticed to collect more coffee for the union [BCU].
Charles Kituyi, another delegate from Magale Zone, said in the past some farmers feared bringing their coffee to the stores because the stores were not secure.
BCU covers the Mt. Elgon districts of Mbale, Sironko, Manafwa, Bulambuli, Namisindwa and Bududa.
