Namisindwa district youth councillor donates iron sheets to boda boda riders

NAMISINDWA – The Namisindwa district male youth councillor, Emma Bwayo days ago handed over iron sheets to members of Busulwa Township Boda Boda Stage in Tsekululu Sub-county.

According to Bwayo, during the belated International Women’s Day celebrations in Namisindwa district, a group of boda boda youth asked him to buy them iron sheets and cement to construct sheds that can shield them from the heavy rain and hot sun as they wait for customers.

Handing over the iron sheets to the beneficiaries, Bwayo said the boda boda business is a source of livelihood for many youth in the border district where smuggling of goods from Kenya still takes place due to poverty.

He said boda boda riders have potential to improve their livelihoods if they embrace government programmes such as the Parish Development Model [PDM], Emyooga Programme, and the Youth Livelihood Programme among others.

Bwayo asked the government to continue prioritising boda boda riders in the programmes for wealth creation so that they are able to meaningfully contribute to national development.

“Boda boda riders have money because they earn every day but what is lacking is how to manage the money to stimulate development,” he said.

Shedrack Magomu, the chairperson of Busulwa Boda boda Stage, applauded Bwayo for the support, saying many leaders have ignored their calls to help them build a shed, which he said is important in shielding them from adverse weather and its effects.

Magomu asked Bwayo to support other boda boda stages in the districvt with iron sheets, saying they need sheds to shield them from rain and the hot sun.

Brian Namazala, also a member of Busulwa Township Boda Boda Stage, asked the government to empower the boda boda riders economically, saying they have families to look after.
