Associates seek sustainable cooperative sector in Nigeria

ABUJA-The Cooperative Rating & Award Society of Nigeria [CRASoN] has called for the development and sustainability of the cooperative sector in the country, according to local news outlet Punch.

Punch quoted the group as saying this was necessary to address the challenges facing the sector such as neglect among others across the state of the federation.

The president of the group, Victor Oyegoke, spoke while leading the management team of the society to pay a visit to the Edo State Commissioner, Ministry of Industry, Trade and Cooperatives, Afishetu Braimoh.

Oyegoke said, “The visit is to advocate and seek collaborative support for CRASoN projects, programmes and activities.

“In other states, the Cooperative Department is always neglected but we have seen that in Edo State, it is not so, as evidence with the level of support given to cooperators, the education, awareness and information made available on cooperatives especially at the last 2022 International Day of Cooperatives held in the state is unprecedented and hope to see more collaboration with the Edo Cooperative Federation Limited to have more impact in the future within the state.

“The issue germane to the cooperative sector is promotion, development, and ensuring sustainability of the sector in Nigeria.

“We also discussed on how to address the Cooperative Data Collation and Analysis; Cooperative Recognition as key partner in development contributing to the socio-economic spheres of life, and encouraging CSR initiatives as provided for in the cooperative principles and values of concern for communities and caring for other.”

He stated that the Nigerian National Cooperative Awards which started in 2018, is billed to hold between November 18 and 20, 2022, in Abuja.
