Apac school gest Shs 30mln solar power system

APAC– Apac Seed Secondary School in Apac district has received a 2-kilowatt solar power system, two years after it was opened to admit students.

The solar power system worth Shs 30 million was donated to the school by the German Agency for International Cooperation [GIZ].

James Akeba, the head teacher of Apac Seed Secondary School, while receiving the solar power system, said the school has been operating in darkness due to the lack of electricity.

Akeba said the installation of the solar system will now improve academic performance in the school as students will be able to revise their books at night.

“Today they have installed the solar system to provide light to our offices, classrooms, and dormitories. Our teachers will now teach extra lessons effectively and learners will be able to read books at night,” he said.

While handing over the solar system to leaders of Apac Seed Secondary School on Sunday, Tony Jasper Odongo, the Apac district vice chairperson, urged administrators of the school to ensure that it is safe at all times.

Jasper Otimoi, the GIZ focal point person in Apac district said, “You have gotten power today after two years of struggle. This has brought the power crisis in the school to an end. It is my appeal that the students make the best use of the solar system when schools reopen.”

Apac Seed Secondary School, located in Lango Centre village, Abedi parish in Apac Sub-county, has  8,40 students, a fulfillment of a presidential pledge to give children from marginalised communities, an opportunity to go to school.
