All set for FIFA Football for Schools Programme in Njeru
Preparations have been in high gear to make sure everything is in one piece to pull off a successful event.
KAMPALA, June 21, 2024 – Uganda is gearing towards hosting the FIFA Football For Schools [F4S] Programme slated for June 23-25, 2024 at FUFA Technical Centre, Njeru.
For the past few weeks, preparations have been in high gear to make sure everything is in one piece to pull off a successful event.
Football for Schools [F4S] is a programme run by FIFA, in collaboration with UNESCO, to contribute to the education, development, and empowerment of around 700 million children across the world.
It was launched in mid-2019 with pilot projects in Puerto Rico and Lebanon but has since spread to various parts of the World.
The programme is in line with FUFA’s Technical Master Plan launched last year that seeks to make football more accessible to both boys and girls.
The programme has been designed to promote targeted life skills and competencies through football and contribute to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals [SDGs] and other priorities.
The programme includes:
Free digital application [Football for Schools], accessible via Google Play and the Apple App Store;
Online learning platform with relevant content for programme stakeholders;
Provision of equipment [including adidas footballs] that will be distributed to schools; and
A one-off USD 50,000 payment to each Member Association [MA] to run the programme.
A three-man delegation from FIFA is expected to grace the launch of the Programme at FUFA Technical Centre, Njeru. This includes;
FIFA Football For Schools Manager – Antonio Buenano Sanchez
FIFA Chief Member Associations Officer – Kenny Honore Jean Marie
FIFA Technical Consultant – Alberto Giacomini
The Programme will have a workshop for the first two days with 50 games teachers from schools in the 8 FUFA Regions undergoing training.
The third and final day will end with a football festival and official launch of the Football For Schools Programme.
The games’ teachers trained in Njeru will be expected to spread knoweldge gained to their respective regions.
