Alebtong health units get Shs 300mln for medical equipment
ALEBTONG, September 4, 2024 — Government is to provide Shs 300 million towards the procurement of medical equipment for two upgraded health facilities in Alebtong district.
The Government Chief Whip, Denis Hamson Obua who doubles as Ajuri County Member of Parliament, identified the health units as Angetta Health Centre III, and Awei Health Centre III.
Closing a week-long medical camp at Amugo Health Centre III recently, Obua said the upgraded health centres will now be able to provide improved services to the community.
Further, Obua said government plans to upgrade Amugo Health Centre III to Health Centre IV to offer better service to the people.
“It has been endorsed, and agreed that the health centre [ Amugo Health Centre III ] be upgraded to Health Centre IV, equipped, provided an ambulance and enough health workers recruited to handle cases which cannot be handled at Health Centre III,” he said.
The medical camp was organised by Obua in partnership with the Uganda People’s Defence Forces [UPDF] Directorate of Medical Services. A total of 3,928 patients benefitted from free treatment.
The Deputy Director of the UPDF Directorate of Medical Services, Brig. Dr. Patrick Ocen lauded the UPDF medical professionals exhibiting good discipline while treating the people in the medical camp.
“You exhibited good discipline which is worth identifying with UPDF because UPDF is a disciplined force, the people’s army and I thank you for coming and blending with the people of Alebtong,” Ocen said.
“I want to thank you for your dedication. You worked under hectic conditions from 900am to 900pm every day, and sometimes without food. That is the resilience that you went through, that is why you got trained to persevere in all situations,” he added.
He urged them to continue to associate with the communities and exhibit professionalism in whatever they do.
Ocen urged Alebtong district leaders to scale up screening the population against malaria, saying a considerable number of people who visited the medical camp were carrying the disease.
