Alebtong district boss lauds IsDB for financing community projects

ALEBTONG, December 10, 2025 — Alebtong district has commended the Islamic Development Bank [IsDB] for funding major community development projects worth over Shs 3 billion.

The district LCV Chairperson David Kennedy Odongo highlighted that the IsDB has financed several initiatives in the district, including the construction of piped water systems, an oil mill, a market, the repair of community access roads, and cooperative development.

Odongo noted that the water project in Abako Subcounty was established at a cost of Shs 1.2bln, Alebtong Market was built at Shs 300 million, the Apala Oil Mill at Shs 500mln, along with additional funding for road rehabilitation.

He made the remarks during the Alebtong Prayer Day held recently at the district headquarters, where Bishop Tom Ibrahim Okello of All Nations Gospel Church delivered the sermon.

Odongo emphasised that the establishment of the oil mill will enable farmers to add value to sunflower by producing cooking oil, allowing them to earn more from their harvests. “We need to thank God for these developments,” Odongo said.

Uganda’s Ambassador to Ethiopia, Rebecca Amuge Otengo was the Chief Guest at the ceremony.

Ambassador Otengo praised Bishop Okello for supporting the people of Alebtong while they were living in camps as internally displaced persons [IDPs] during the insurgency caused by the Lord’s Resistance Army [LRA] rebels. She called for the continued efforts to help households get out of poverty.

She also acknowledged the challenges faced by local leaders who serve communities with limited resources, noting that they often go beyond their usual duties to meet public needs.

Otengo urged leaders to work together to ensure government poverty-alleviation programmes achieve their intended goals, and called on both current and incoming leaders to take their oversight roles seriously by monitoring government initiatives for effective implementation.
