ALEBTONG: Apami Primary School gets Shs 800mln facelift

ALEBTONG, October 30, 2023 – Tororo Cement Limited has funded the rehabilitation of Apami Primary School in Abako Sub-county, Alebtong district, to the tune of Shs 800 million.

The Government Chief Whip, Denis Hamson Obua who is also Ajuri County Member of Parliament disclosed the development during the thanksgiving service held for the rehabilitated school over the weekend.

The rehabilitation works involved improving three classroom blocks, administration block, staff quarters, toilet facilities, kitchen, and St Paul Apami Church of Uganda.

Obua lauded Tororo Cement, saying the school will now be able to attract more pupils and perform better academically.

He appealed to parents to release pupils in time for school but also urged teachers to to teach pupils values that are embedded in the new curriculum.

Preaching during the thanksgiving, the Bishop of Lango Diocese, Prof. Alfred Olwa called for the good maintenance of the school now that it has been rehabilitated.

“I want to appeal to the lay reader and the headteacher to use the facility responsibly because it is now a conducive place where pupils can learn,” he said.

The headteacher, Charles Okello, thanked the partners saying because of the improved structures, the number of learners has grown from 270 last year to 700 after the facelift.

“This renovation has attracted many parents to the school and I am expecting more learners to join the school next year,” he added.

He added though the school has been rehabilitated, it still faces a number of challenges such as inadequate staff accommodation, poor funding, and parents who don’t want to support the school financially.

Okello said the school that operates under the University Primary Education [UPE] gets only Shs 6 million per term from government much as it requires Shs 10mln to run its activities better.
