Aduku Road Gangs SACCO gets new leaders

KWANIA– Members of Aduku Town Council Road Gangs SACCO have elected new leaders who will hold office for the next five years.

Established in 2021 with 74 members, the SACCO comprises casual labourers [road gangs] who are employed to maintain roads within Aduku Town Council in Kwania district. The SACCO was formed to help alleviate poverty among members.

However, Aduku Road Gang SACCO has been running under interim leadership. On Friday, members elected the new leaders who will be charged with the responsibility of ensuring that the SACCO grows to greater heights.

Fhiona Abodo, and George Olila were elected chairperson, and vice chairman of the SACCO respectively. Tom Odongo was elected treasurer while Dick Obonyo was elected general secretary, among others.

Speaking shortly after taking over as the new SACCO chairperson, Abodo, pledged to work tirelessly to take the SACCO to greater heights.

“I will ensure that I work with you the SACCO members and not against you. I will keep your savings safe, account for the money and be transparent. I commit to do whatever it takes to ensure this SACCO grows to greater heights,” she told the SACCO members.

While speaking to members after the election of the new leaders, Patrick Bura, the Kwania district commercial officer encouraged the Aduku Road Gang SACCO members to save regularly and buy more shares to develop the SACCO.

“Savings is one way that can develop this SACCO.  Although most rural farmers do not save complaining of lack of income, I encourage you today to save money regularly, buy more shares and take part in the SACCO’s activities,” he said.

Alex Egwar, the Aduku Town Council health inspector who represented the town clerk at the function said,” As leaders of Aduku Town Council, we are very impressed with the road gangs for taking the lead in the formation of the SACCO.”
