VANCOUVER – World Council of Credit Unions [WOCCU] has an additional direct member organisation. This follows the approval of the African Confederation of Cooperative Savings and Credit Association’s [ ACCOSCA ] promotion from an associate to a direct member of WOCCU.
As the only pan-African credit union association representing national associations from 20 countries, direct membership will give ACCOSCA a significant number of votes at future annual general meetings and also qualifies the organisation for a seat on the WOCCU Board, resulting in a stronger voice for Africa in WOCCU governance.
ACCOSCA becomes WOCCU’s sixth direct member organisation from Africa.
Meanwhile ACCOSCA will host Africa’s largest annual financial cooperative event from October 8-13, 2023, bringing together all credit unions in the continent and beyond to deliberate on issues taking eminence in the cooperative sector.
Under the theme “Strengthening Sustainable Financial Systems for Economic Development”, SACCA 2023 to be hosted in Gaborane, Botswana is expected to attract close to 1000 leaders from over 30 countries in Africa and beyond, creating an opportune avenue to collaborate, empower, and collectively formulate ways to address members’ and communities’ challenges.
