Onek warns politicians against politicising PDM

AMURU-The Minister for Refugees and Disaster Preparedness in the Office of the Prime Minister Hillary Onek has warned politicians in Amuru district against politicking and discouraging locals in the district from participating in the Parish Development Module [PDM].

Amuru district has politically been a stronghold for the opposition political party, Forum for Democratic Change [FDC] having representatives at the local council, district, and parliament.

Onek said that already some of the politicians in the district have started talking about the failure of the project even when it is yet to be implemented.

The Minister asked the community members to own the projects and ventures that will be funded by the government under the PDM and focus on fighting household poverty.

“I want to encourage the stakeholders to focus on wealth creation by investing in only businesses that are profit making rather than spending money on losses. I also want to encourage each person to be your brother’s keeper so that everyone prospers together,” Minister Onek said.

Each parish in the country is to receive Shs 100 million under the PDM under seven pillars including production, storage, processing, and marketing, social services, infrastructure, and economic services.

Recently Michael Lakony, the Amuru district LCV Chairperson said in recent sensitisation meetings with community members and politicians, that all the stakeholders had agreed to ensure accountability, productivity, and the success of the program.

Lakony said as district leaders, they will be on the lookout for individuals who will want to talk against the programme with the aim of jeopardizing its success and holding them accountable for sabotaging government programmes.

Amuru district has a total of 58 parishes with most of the populace being subsistence farmers.
