Gulu City Staff SACCO elects first leadership
GULU, August 20, 2026 — Members of the Gulu City Staff Savings and Credit Cooperative Organisation [SACCO] have for the first time elected their leaders who will steer the cooperative formed last year.
George Odong was elected Chairperson, with Dr Aya Mary Stella as his deputy. Lanyero Catherine was elected General Secretary, while Bob Otiak became Treasurer and Maureen Amito Winny Publicity Secretary.
The elected Board Committee members are Alice Acen, Fillian Nyamer, Jane Akwero, Alice Akello and Odoko Kadim. The new leadership will serve a four-year term.
The elections were presided over by the City Commercial Officer, Nixon Atemo, who urged the newly elected leaders to uphold integrity, transparency and accountability in managing the SACCO and steering it towards growth.
“We expect the new leadership to uphold integrity, transparency and accountability in managing the SACCO and steering it towards growth,” Atemo said.
Atemo pledged that his office would support the new leadership through training and capacity building for the various working committees to be established to manage the SACCO.
The Chief Guest, Christine Olok, the female councillor representing workers on Gulu City Council, expressed confidence in the members’ choice of leaders and encouraged all staff to embrace the SACCO.
Olok said the SACCO would not only improve staff welfare but also strengthen unity, cooperation and bonding among employees.
In his acceptance remarks, newly elected Board Chairperson George Odong thanked members for entrusting him and the board with the responsibility of leading the SACCO.
“I thank the members for entrusting me and the board with this responsibility. I appeal to all members to support the new leadership as we work together to grow the SACCO and ensure it delivers meaningful benefits to staff,” Odong said.
The new leadership now takes on the responsibility of building a strong, transparent and sustainable staff SACCO that advances the financial welfare and unity of Gulu City Council employees.
