NAP: Gender Ministry readies graduate volunteers for orientation in Kampala

The volunteers were selected from diverse fields, including engineering, law, journalism, accountancy, social sciences, finance, human resource management, gender, marketing, agriculture, ICT, and public administration, among others

KAMPALA, June 19, 2026 — About 100 graduate volunteers selected under the National Apprenticeship Programme [NAP], run by the Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development [MGLSD], are set to undergo orientation at Fairway Boutique Hotel in Kampala.

The participants, drawn from the sixth cohort of the NAP for the 2025/2026 financial year, will be oriented next Tuesday before being deployed to 26 host institutions comprising government, and private sector organisations.

According to the MGLSD, the NAP is a flagship initiative designed to promote youth employment, enhance labour productivity and strengthen workplace readiness through structured skills development and volunteer placements.

Ministry officials said the beneficiaries will be equipped during the orientation with key information on NAP’s objectives, workplace ethics, compliance requirements, and their roles and responsibilities as apprentices.

The volunteers were selected from diverse fields, including engineering, law, journalism, accountancy, social sciences, finance, human resource management, gender, marketing, agriculture, ICT, and public administration, among others.

Meanwhile, as part of the programme, the ministry has also organised an orientation workshop for workplace supervisors, scheduled for next Friday at the same venue.

The workshop aims to equip supervisors with knowledge of NAP objectives, compliance requirements, mentorship responsibilities, and reporting obligations to ensure effective oversight of graduate volunteers and apprentices.
