ACCOSCA advances financial wellness through coaching certification programme
The Class of May 2026 brought together participants from a range of cooperative financial institutions, equipping them with skills aimed at improving member financial wellbeing and promoting long-term financial inclusion
JOHANNESBURG, May 19, 2026 — Nearly 40 graduates from eight African countries have completed the seventh Financial Coaching Certification Programme organised by the African Confederation of Cooperative Savings and Credit Associations [ ACCOSCA ] in Johannesburg, South Africa, marking another milestone in strengthening financial literacy and institutional sustainability across the continent’s cooperative and credit union sector.
The Class of May 2026 brought together participants from a range of cooperative financial institutions, equipping them with skills aimed at improving member financial wellbeing and promoting long-term financial inclusion.
According to ACCOSCA, the programme was designed to empower participants to conduct financial health assessments, guide members towards responsible financial behaviours, support retirement and wealth-building planning, and help individuals establish stronger financial foundations.
Graduates are also expected to apply their training within their respective institutions as practising financial coaches, supporting members in making informed financial decisions and improving their overall financial resilience.
ACCOSCA said the certification deepens participants’ understanding of how different backgrounds, experiences and perspectives shape financial decision-making among members, enabling coaches to offer more tailored and effective guidance.
The organisation added that the initiative forms part of its broader mission to strengthen Africa’s cooperative and credit union movement through its Academy Centres of Excellence, which focus on building sustainable, member-centred financial institutions across the continent.
The latest graduation reflects growing efforts within Africa’s cooperative finance sector to promote financial wellness and expand access to quality financial education for underserved communities.
