Trade ministry to host Cooperative Clinic in Greater Masaka region

KAMPALA, February 25, 2026 — As part of a countrywide drive, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Cooperatives [MTIC] will host a Cooperative Clinic in the Greater Masaka region from March 10-12, 2026, following a similar event held in the Busoga Sub-region.
According to the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Lynette B. Bagonza, the event aimed at enhancing the cooperative sector will take place at Masaka Liberation Ground in Masaka City under the theme: “Service delivery, our priority.”
In a letter dated February 22, 2026, and addressed to stakeholders who promote the cooperative sector in Uganda, Bagonza states the Cooperative Clinic aims to raise awareness of services offered by MTIC, its departments and agencies [MDAs], and partners to cooperatives. It will also provide an opportunity for cooperatives and other stakeholders to engage directly with MDAs on matters affecting their operations.
Bagonza notes that the clinic will feature cooperative registration services, including a dedicated desk to provide information and support for both first-time and permanent registration.

Other activities will include general advisory services and two daily training sessions focusing on governance and compliance, targeting both cooperative members and leaders.
A Cooperatives Stakeholders’ Meeting is also scheduled for March 13, 2026 at Masaka Central Market Conference.
Greater Masaka — comprising Masaka district, Masaka City, Rakai district, Kalangala district, Sembabule district, Kalungu district, Bukomansimbi district and Lwengo district — hosts several active cooperatives focused on agriculture and finance.
Under the MTIC Strategic Plan 2025/26–2029/30, the Ministry aims to strengthen cooperatives to enhance economic inclusion and productivity.
