Ankole Farmers and Traders SACCO donates over Shs 100mln in medical support to mark 25 years

MBARARA CITY, October 29, 2025 – Ankole Farmers and Traders SACCO is marking its 25th anniversary by donating medical supplies and equipment worth over Shs 100 million to health centres across the Ankole, Kigezi, and Tooro sub-regions.

The corporate social responsibility campaign, which ran through September and October, aims to improve health services for the SACCO’s members and the broader community. With 17 branches, the SACCO will officially celebrate its silver jubilee on November 17, 2025.

While donating a delivery bed at Bisheshe Health Centre III in Ibanda district recently, Board Chairperson Nathan Kateeba said the initiative is intended to enhance healthcare delivery among members.

“If you give people good health, their economies will improve. We want to ensure that people have good health, produce healthy children, and work productively,” he said.

At Rukungiri Health Centre IV, Wilberforce Ongom, Deputy Resident District Commissioner, commended the SACCO for its transparency and commitment.

“The people of Rukungiri appreciate institutions that are truthful, diligent and trustworthy, and Ankole Farmers and Traders SACCO embodies these qualities,” he said.

Joshua Rubimusya, Business Manager, revealed that the SACCO has delivered medical items to health centres in Rwampara, Mbarara, Rukungiri, Ibanda, Ntungamo, Kamwenge and Kiruhura districts. The donations included delivery beds, refrigerators, mattresses, pampers and soap for mothers in labour.

“We are giving back to the community that has supported us for the past 25 years,” Rubimusya said. “This is our way of appreciating their trust and partnership.”

Merab Kansiime, Vice Chairperson of the Board, urged health workers to take good care of the donated equipment.

“These beds will serve mothers in labour across the region. We want women to deliver safely and in dignity,” she said.

At the same event, Dr Arthur Nuwagaba, a Board Member, noted that sustaining the SACCO for 25 years is a significant achievement.

“Financial institutions often struggle to last this long. Our success lies in quality service and a strong commitment to the community,” he said.

District officials and community leaders across the beneficiary areas expressed gratitude, praising the SACCO for living up to the cooperative principle of Concern for Community.

Phoebe Kyomukama, District Commercial Officer for Kiruhura, commended the SACCO for “setting a benchmark in corporate social responsibility.”

Jean Akangumya, her counterpart in Isingiro, encouraged other SACCOs to emulate the initiative to strengthen health services in rural areas.

Local leaders, including Mayor Johnson Kanyomozi of Ibanda Municipality and Mayor Wilberforce Bakiiga of Isingiro Town Council, lauded the SACCO’s generosity, noting that few financial institutions extend such direct support to public health facilities.

Founded on November 17, 2000, Ankole Farmers and Traders SACCO attributes its sustained growth to community trust and quality financial services. It now operates 17 branches, serving more than 10,000 members across four sub-regions. The silver jubilee celebrations will take place at Mbarara University Inn Grounds.
