Bunyoro coops urged to adopt Uhuru’s CoopProfiler for enhanced efficiency

The digital platform enables cooperatives in Uganda and beyond to collect, analyse, measure, and report on the overall status of their businesses and individual members, thereby fostering more strategic and data-driven operations

MASINDI, April 16, 2025 – Cooperatives in Uganda’s Bunyoro Sub-region have been urged to adopt CoopProfiler, an innovative web and mobile-based software solution developed by the Kampala-based Uhuru Institute for Social Development [TUI], to improve efficiency and promote informed decision-making within the cooperatives.

The digital platform enables cooperatives in Uganda and beyond to collect, analyse, measure, and report on the overall status of their businesses and individual members, thereby fostering more strategic and data-driven operations.

“Our platform promotes cooperative resilience and fosters sustainable growth by identifying business gaps and opportunities,” said Vicky Adong, Software Business Executive at TUI.

Adong was addressing members of the Bunyoro Sugarcane Farmers’ Cooperative Union Limited [BUSFACO] during a training workshop held at their headquarters in Kisanja Village, Pakanyi Sub-county, Masindi district, on Tuesday.

She described CoopProfiler as a vital tool for analysing cooperatives, their teams, and individual members by evaluating strengths, weaknesses, and compatibility to improve collaboration and overall organisational effectiveness. The system is grounded in core cooperative principles such as voluntary and open membership, democratic control, member economic participation, autonomy, education and training, cooperation among cooperatives, and concern for community.

“We are here to give you an overview of this system, CoopProfiler,” Adong stated. “It will improve your efficiency and empower you to better manage your cooperatives.”

According to Adong, CoopProfiler helps cooperatives adapt to changes in the business environment and avoid unexpected failures through resilience profiling.

“Through CoopProfiler, stakeholders learn to prioritise resources towards resilience management in Uganda’s competitive business climate and quantify their cooperative’s impact,” she added.

She also highlighted the tool’s capability to track the performance of primary societies, thus enhancing their collective bargaining power and strengthening the support they receive from umbrella unions.

“This tool not only streamlines member information management but also fosters stronger linkages among cooperative members,” she said.

Muhamudu Kazimbiraine, Chairperson of BUSFACO, welcomed the introduction of CoopProfiler, describing it as a valuable system for managing member information.

“In today’s digital age, adopting this system is essential to effectively manage our operations,” he said.

He pledged to mobilise primary societies affiliated with BUSFACO to adopt and effectively use the system.

Other cooperatives represented at the training included Eziragaine Sugar Farmers’ Cooperative Society Limited and Kyema Sugarcane Farmers’ Cooperative Society Limited, among others. Participants expressed their commitment to mobilise members and register them using the CoopProfiler system.

To support the system’s adoption, subscription fees have been set as follows: cooperative unions will pay Shs 36,500, primary cooperative societies Shs 24,500, and individual members just Shs 1,220.
