“I join you today in celebrating this significant milestone in your academic journey. This ceremony stands as a testament to what can be achieved through dedication and the pursuit of knowledge, and I commend you for your efforts,” she said.

“I also commend the management of Lira University, particularly the staff, for their hard work and determination, which have made this graduation possible. As the National Resistance Movement Government, we recognise the crucial role higher education plays in shaping the future of our young people,” she added.

She emphasised that earning a degree is not only about academic credentials, but also about acquiring the knowledge and skills to think critically, innovate, and contribute meaningfully to the world around us.

She urged the graduates to apply the knowledge, skills, and values they have gained for their personal development and for the transformation of their communities and the country.

“To achieve all of this, you must maintain a positive attitude, as you are stepping into a rapidly evolving world, where artificial intelligence, the internet, and digital technology are revolutionising the way we live and work,” she said.

David Geoffrey Opiokello, the Chairperson of the Lira University Council, expressed gratitude to the government for the Shs 500 million grant allocated for research and innovation.

However, he added, “But like Oliver Twist famously said, ‘I want some more!’ I would like to see the funding for research and innovation increased to one billion shillings, which would enable more students and staff innovators and researchers to benefit and, in turn, develop more innovative products.”
