PDM: Minister Adoa warns commercial banks against deducting beneficiaries’ money

SOROTI – The State Minister for Fisheries, Hellen Adoa has urged commercial banks to release the full amount of the money meant for the beneficiaries of the Parish Development Model [PDM].

Minister Adoa’s remarks come after some of the PDM beneficiaries in Soroti district raised an alarm after receiving less money than they expected. The affected beneficiaries said each of them was supposed to get Shs 1 million.

“The President [Museveni] directed you banks to deposit one million shillings per household, but I am shocked to hear that the programme’s beneficiaries are receiving less money,” Adoa said.

The minister was on Wednesday launching the disbursement of PDM funds in Soroti district headquarters where he urged banks to ensure beneficiaries of the programme get all their money in full.

Veronica Apio a resident of Asuret Sub-county said she had applied for one million shillings but was shocked when she received only Shs 900,000.

Joseph Elapu and Simom Abeku other beneficiaries received She 800, 000 and Shs 900,000 respectively, which was less than one million shillings they had applied for in the five-year programme.

Meanwhile, Soroti County Member of Parliament, Patrick Ayeku said he would deal with commercial alleged to have cheated the PDM beneficiaries.

However, when contacted, Martin Ojambo, the manager of Post Bank, Soroti Branch, in an interview said PDM beneficiaries receiving their monies through their phones are the ones being affected.

The PDM was launched in February 2022 as an initiative through which government would transform 3.5 million households in Uganda by moving them from the subsistence economy to the money economy.

Every financial year, each gazatted parish in the country is supposed to receive Shs 100mln as parish revolving fund [PRF] for enterprise groups. The disbursement of funds began last financial year where government earmarked over one trillion shillings for the PDM.
