Form SACCOs to develop saving culture, Kumi residents told

KUMI– Farmers in Kumi district have been advised to develop a saving culture if they are to improve the welfare of their households and fight poverty.

The advice was given by Ahmed Washaki, the resident district commissioner [RDC] Kumi, who also urged the farmers to form or join SACCOs where members save money for future use.

Washaki made the call days ago while monitoring government programmes in the district, He also urged residents to spend on income-generating activities other than spending on luxuries.

Washaki noted that poverty has hit some people simply because they have a poor saving culture.

The RDC also urged the residents in the district to save their money with financial institutions instead of keeping it in their houses.

“Poor saving culture has killed the economy of the country,” he said, adding that many successful business people have developed through saving.

He encouraged the members to work hard if they are to create wealth and fight poverty in their households.

The RDC further asked the residents to acquire new skills and have a positive attitude, saying the two are important for development.
