2025.coop: International Year of Cooperatives website now live

2025.coop brings together information, updates and assets to enable people, cooperatives and communities to celebrate the Cooperative Year and achieve its stated objectives of raising public awareness, promoting growth and development, advocating for supportive frameworks and inspiring leadership

BRUSSELS, December 10, 2024: Following the global launch of the International Year of Cooperatives [IYC2025] in New Delhi, India, on November 25, a dedicated IYC website has been set up and is now live.

2025.coop brings together information, updates and assets to enable people, cooperatives and communities to celebrate the Cooperative Year and achieve its stated objectives of raising public awareness, promoting growth and development, advocating for supportive frameworks and inspiring leadership.

The website includes the form and guidelines to apply for and use the logo, links to the official UN resolution on the announcement of the IYC [A/RES/78/289], and guidelines for creating national committees or other structures to set, achieve and report on objectives set for the year.

To help promote and communicate the IYC2025, an official logo was unveiled, which features a vibrant, interconnected design of people from diverse communities uniting to create positive change. The three key colours—red, blue, and green—are inspired by the SDG visual identity, representing cooperatives’ contributions to social, economic, and environmental sustainability.

Organisations interested in using the IYC2025 logo must adhere to specific guidelines provided by the UN Committee for the Promotion and Advancement of Cooperatives [COPAC] and the United Nations. A request for use can be submitted through the official online application form found on 2025.coop.

Working with DotCooperation, the website also features an IYC event map, which will be populated to show IYC-related activities taking place around the world. Cooperatives and associated organisations are encouraged to submit their events to be added to the map, which will demonstrate the truly global nature of cooperation.

“We call to cooperators worldwide to share their pride for what cooperatives are doing to build a better world, and to take advantage of the International Year of Cooperatives,” said ICA Director General, Jeroen Douglas.

On June 19, 2024, the United Nations General Assembly proclaimed 2025 as the International Year of Cooperatives [IYC2025], underscoring the vital role cooperatives play in sustainable development. The theme of the year is “Cooperatives Build a Better World”, which highlights the enduring global impact of cooperatives, positioning them as essential solutions to today’s global challenges.

The 2025 International Year of Cooperatives highlights their contributions to sustainable development across social, economic, and environmental dimensions, showing how cooperatives are key drivers in achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals [SDGs] by 2030. The theme also emphasises the unique ability of cooperatives to foster inclusive growth and strengthen community resilience.

International Cooperative Alliance [ICA] President, Ariel Guarco, says: “This is the second time in history that the UN has dedicated an International Year to Cooperatives and this is not a coincidence. Cooperatives are present in every aspect of our lives, answering to each of the Sustainable Development Goals, everywhere.”

About COPAC

The Committee for the Promotion and Advancement of Cooperatives [COPAC], a multi-stakeholder partnership of global public and private institutions, will serve as the official host of the IYC, championing and supporting people-centred and self-sustaining cooperative enterprises as leaders in sustainable development.
